I recently purchased a True Brew
gold equipment kit from monsterbrew.com and an ingredient kit of
Muntons Gold Docklands Porter. Apologies for the blurry camera phone snaps....
I opted for the glass carboy because I plan on having more homebrew adventures .. .. ..
After unpacking everything, I sterilized the carboy with the included c-brite packs.
I wanted to start of as simple as possible my first go round, so i got an ingredient kit
that was a "no boil". It consisted of 2 cans of hopped malt extract,
and a packet of yeast. It was a cinch to throw in the carboy, i cut the top off of a two litter bottle,
it fit just right into the neck of it for an easy funnel.
The malt extract and hop pellets are mashed together and the water is evaporated, so all you do is add the two cans into the fermenter.
The instructions say not to boil the canned ingredients, just pour into the fermenter and boil
6 pints of water, then add to the fermenter.
Being my first time, i didn't want my new glass carboy to crack by adding boiling water to it,
so I let the water cool a little before adding.
After adding the extract, and letting it cool a bit, more water was added to make up the full
6 UK gallons. Im not sure if i added enough, because i used a sterilized 1 gallon milk jug to add
more water, a gallon at a time.
